Caroline Wozniacki and Caroline Garcia meet in the 2017 WTA Finals.

Caroline Wozniacki is coming off a straight sets win over Simona Halep that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Wozniacki won 72 percent of her first serve points and 69 percent of her second serve points. Wozniacki has come out of nowhere this tournament, winning both of her matches in straight sets as an underdog, and dropping a combined four games in the process. Wozniacki is coming off a match in which she won 71 percent of her service points and 56 percent of her return points. Wozniacki has not been broken once this tournament and is hitting the ball with extreme confidence, something we haven’t seen since winning the Pan Pacific Open. Wozniacki now has 12 wins over top-10 players this season, the most she’s ever had in one year. Wozniacki has won nine of her last 12 matches on hard court.

Caroline Garcia is coming off a three sets win over Elina Svitolina that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Garcia won 69 percent of her first serve points and 35 percent of her second serve points. Garcia showed terrific fight in her second match after dropping a first set tiebreak, and she managed to win 46 percent of her return points. Garcia was much more consistent with her shotmaking and came away with nearly every big point in the final two sets. Garcia continues this impressive stretch of victories on hard court and has a chance to make it out of the round robin stages in her first ever WTA Finals appearance. Garcia now has four wins over top-10 players this season and has never produced five in a single year. Garcia has won 12 of her last 13 matches on hard court.

These two have played twice and Wozniacki has won both meetings. The most recent match was in the 2015 Connecticut Open, a match she won in 15 games. The other match was in the 2012 Korea Open. Wozniacki is up 24-8 in combined games in those two matches.

Garcia has been on a tear recently on hard court and has made some money as an underdog recently. The head to head numbers also don’t hold much value considering the two matches were years ago. However, Wozniacki has been lights out in her first two matches and it’s tough to bet against a player who has looked so locked in. Just four games lost this tournament? While a Garcia victory wouldn’t shock me, Wozniacki has been too sharp.

I like Wozniacki to sweep round robin play.
