Caroline Wozniacki vs Ekaterina Alexandrova - 3/9/19 WTA Tour - Indian Wells Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Caroline Wozniacki will begin her 2019 WTA Indian Wells Open in the second round where she will face Ekaterina Alexandrova from Russia.

Ekaterina Alexandrova enters this match having won her opening round fixture in  3 sets against Rebecca Peterson. It was a close contest where Ekaterina Alexandrova lost the middle set but showed enough composure to win the final set and the match. During the win, Alexandrova impressed with her serving as she won 66% of her service points which allowed her to 86% of her service games. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Ekaterina Alexandrova as she is playing a significantly stronger opponent in Caroline Wozniacki.

It has been a relatively tough few months for Caroline Wozniacki as she has dropped out of the top 10 ranked spots for the first time in many years. Wozniacki missed both the Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships due to a viral illness meaning that this will be the first time the Danish superstar will be playing since the Australian Open. Caroline Wozniacki has a good record at the Indian Wells Open as she won this title in 2011 and finished second in 2010 and 2013. Wozniacki made the fourth round of this tournament last season.

Caroline Wozniacki and Ekaterina Alexandrova have played each other twice in the past with Wozniacki winning on both occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2018 at WTA Istanbul where Caroline Wozniacki won in straight sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Caroline Wozniacki to win. Ekaterina Alexandrova had a solid opening round win but Wozniacki simply is a more skilled and accomplished player. Wozniacki has an exceptional record at the Indian Wells Open and I see her winning this match and making the third round of the tournament.
