Caroline Wozniacki and Kiki Bertens meet in the third round of the 2018 tennis Madrid Masters.

Caroline Wozniacki is coming off a three sets win over Ashleigh Barty that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Wozniacki won 68 percent of her first serve points and 48 percent of her second serve points. Wozniacki managed to win a tight second round match and was the classic defensive player, winning 46 percent of her return points and breaking five times. Wozniacki still needs to improve her second serve percentage, but she always gives herself a chance to win when she’s covering ground and forcing her opponent to hit the extra ball. Wozniacki now hopes to win at least three matches in a single tournament for the first time since Doha. Wozniacki has won eight of her last 10 matches on clay court.

Kiki Bertens is coming off a straight sets win over Anastasija Sevastova that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Bertens won 73 percent of her first serve points and 39 percent of her second serve points. Bertens continues to play well on clay, as she won the Volvo Car Open back in April and just cruised in her second round victory despite not getting much from her second serve. As long as Bertens can get a high percentage of her first serves in play, she gives herself a chance in this match against a quality returner. Bertens has three career wins over top-10 players, but all three of those wins came back in 2016. Bertens has won seven straight matches on clay court.

These two have played three times and Wozniacki has won all three meetings. The most recent match was in this years Australian Open, and it was won in 19 games. Bertens has never won a set against Wozniacki.

Bertens won just nine of 23 second serve points in her second round match, and that’s not good enough against a player such as Wozniacki. Her return and defense is too good to struggle with her serve like that. Not to mention Wozniacki has won all six sets against Bertens.

Wozniacki should win this match in straight sets.
