Caroline Wozniacki and Svetlana Kuznetsova meet in the second round of the 2016 US Open.

Caroline Wozniacki is coming off a straight sets win over Taylor Townsend that took 29 games to decide. Wozniacki was able to come back after dropping the first set and complete the match despite the crowd rooting heavily for the American. Wozniacki is still struggling to find her form and hasn’t looked like one of the top players we’ve seen from the past, but she did show great signs in her opening round victory. A win here would be terrific for her confidence. Wozniacki has yet to beat a top-10 player this season. Wozniacki has split her last eight matches on hard court.

Svetlana Kuznetsova is coming off a straight sets win over Francesca Schiavone that took 15 games to decide. Kuznetsova needed less than an hour to get the victory and won 83 percent of her first serve points. Kuznetsova is a serious threat for a deep tournament run if she’s able to finish her points that quickly and serve at such a high percentage. Kuznetsova has lost in the second round or earlier in seven of her last nine grand slam appearances. Kuznetsova has won five of her last seven matches on hard court.

These two have split the previous six meetings with Kuznetsova winning four of the last five. Kuznetsova has won five of the last nine matches against Wozniacki on hard court.

Wozniacki is always capable of snapping out of it and pulling off a big upset. However, she’s impossible to back until she shows she’s still capable of beating a top tier opponent.

Kuznetsova should win this match.
