Christian Garin and Marco Cecchinato meet in the semifinal of the 2019 tennis Munich.

Christian Garin is coming off a three sets win over Alexander Zverev that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Garin won 57 percent of his first serve points and 60 percent of his second serve points. Garin won 58 percent of his total service points and converted on seven of his 10 break points. Garin overcame six breaks to get possibly the biggest win of his career, and he broke back immediately after being broken twice in the third set. While Zverev isn’t playing well, it’s a major confidence boosting win for the soon-to-be-23-year-old. Garin picked up his first career win over a top-10 player, and he now hopes to make his second career final appearance and first since this years Brasil Open. Garin has won 10 of his last 11 matches on clay court.

Marco Cecchinato is coming off a straight sets win over Marton Fucsovics that took 31 games to decide. In the victory, Cecchinato won 67 percent of his first serve points and 46 percent of his second serve points. Cecchinato won 58 percent of his total service points and converted on three of his eight break points. Cecchinato took over the match after losing the first set in seven games, and he saved 15 of his 19 break points. Cecchinato obviously can be cleaner with his serve, but his return has been on point and he’s done a good job of managing his unforced errors. Cecchinato hopes to make his second final appearance of the year and the fourth of his career. Cecchinato has won eight of his last 10 matches on clay court.

These two have played twice and Cecchinato won both matches in straight sets, including the most recent meeting this year in Buenos Aires. The other match was in the same location in 2015.

Cecchinato just beat Garin a couple of months ago in straight sets and has two wins over him on clay. Cecchinato also has a major experience advantage over him when it comes to the business end of tournaments, and there’s no telling how the young Garin handles such a victory. Young players tend to have letdowns after such a big win, as it’s not always easy to focus on the next match.

Cecchinato makes his fourth career final appearance.
