|Date & Time||Saturday August 5, 2017, 9:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: -- Over/Under:
Coco Vandeweghe and CiCi Bellis meet in the semifinals of the 2017 Stanford Classic.
Coco Vandeweghe is coming off a straight sets win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Vandeweghe won 81 percent of her first serve points and 63 percent of her second serve points. Vandeweghe has dropped just seven games in her last two matches and is fresh off a performance in which she won 74 percent of her total service points. Vandeweghe is clearly enjoying her breakthrough season right now at 25 years old, but its all about taking that next step and competing for finals. This will be a nice test for Vandeweghe, who has a history of fizzling out around this point of tournaments. Vandeweghe hopes to make her fourth career singles final appearance and first since last years Ricoh Open. Vandeweghe has split her last six matches on hard court.
CiCi Bellis is coming off a straight sets win over Petra Kvitova that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Bellis won 74 percent of her first serve points and 36 percent of her second serve points. Bellis has looked sharp ever since her tournament in Mallorca and is finally starting to find some consistency to her season. Bellis is coming off a match in which she won 65 percent of her return points, and such a dominating victory has to inspire confidence. Bellis thrived on hard court last season and with the way she’s hitting the ball with pace this tournament, she has to like her chances against anybody. Bellis has a chance to make her first career WTA finals appearance. Bellis has split her last six matches on hard court.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
You can’t take anything from Bellis with the way she’s played up to this point, but Vandeweghe is the safer bet here. Vandeweghe has the power game to keep Bellis off balance and hit through the 18-year-old. This is going to be a different match from what Bellis has seen so far this tournament and the fact she’s never seen CoCo before doesn’t help here chances.
Look for CoCo to reach the final.
