Estonian tennis player, Kaia Kanepi has made it into the third round of the 2019 WTA Charleston Open in South Carolina. At this stage of the tournament, Kaia Kanepi will be playing against Danielle Rose Collins from the United States.
Kaia Kanepi had a big win in the previous round as she beat the number 6 seed, Elise Mertens, in 3 sets. Kanepi has a very poor start to the match as she lost the opening set 6-0 but fought back well to win the second set 6-0 and the third set 7-5. During the win, Kanepi returned serve exceptionally well as she won 46% of her receiving points which allowed her to break Elise Merten’s serve on 5 occasions. Kaia Kanepi will be high on confidence after her win but she will have to be at her best to win this match as she is playing against the number 11 seed.
On the other side of the coin, Danielle Rose Collins had a simple win in the previous round as she won in straight sets. Collins won 64% of her service games and 50% of her return games to establish a comfortable win. Danielle Rose Collins has received great support from her home crowd and that is expected to continue in this match.
This will be the first time that Kaia Kanepi and Danielle Rose Collins will be playing against each other at a WTA event.
While Kaia Kanepi looked good during her win against Elise Mertens, I see her losing this match. Danielle Rose Collins had a big win in the second round and the American is looking in exceptional form. Collins has the advantage of playing in her home country and I see that giving her a big boost. With the crowd on her side, I see Danielle Rose Collins winning this match and making it into the quarterfinals.
