American tennis player, Danielle Rose Collins has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 WTA Charleston Open in South Carolina. Collins will now play against Monica Puig from Puerto Rico.
Monica Puig enters this match having won her previous fixture in straight sets against the number 3 seed, Aryna Sabalenka. It was a very solid performance by Puig although she did benefit from her opponent's poor form since Sabalenka played very poorly. Aryna Sabalenka hit 7 double faults and hit many unforced errors which allowed Puig to break her serve on 5 occasions. Monica Puig is a solid player and she showed consistency by winning 80% of her service games which resulted in her eliminating Sabalenka from the tournament.
Danielle Rose Collins, on the other hand, also won her previous match in straight sets as she beat Kaia Kanepi from Estonia. It was a very good match for Collins as she won 56% of her receiving points and broke her opponent’s serve on 6 occasions. Collins also won 67% of her service games which summed up a solid display. Collins seems to be boosted by the support which she is receiving from her home crowd and that support is expected to continue in this match.
Monica Puig and Danielle Rose Collins have played each other twice in the past with both players winning on 1 occasion. The most recent match between these two players was in 2018 at the Miami Masters where Collins won in 3 sets.
Monica Puig has a big win over Sabalenka in the previous round but I see her losing this match. Danielle Rose Collins has been playing very solid tennis and the advantage of playing at home seems to be giving her a big boost. Collins looked exceptional during her previous win and she seems to be playing in a manner which is consistently causing her opponent problems. With that in mind, I see Danielle Rose Collins winning this match.
