Danielle Rose Collins and Naomi Osaka meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis China Open.
Danielle Rose Collins is coming off a three sets win over Timea Bacsinszky that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Collins won 62 percent of her first serve points and 51 percent of her second serve points. Collins won 57 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her seven break points. Collins was sharp with her return and dominated the two sets she won, but her first serve percentage has to improve and the silly errors can be cleaned up as well. Regardless, Collins came into this tournament losing six of her last seven matches, so a victory however it comes has to feel good for the American. Collins hasn’t won two matches in a single tournament since San Jose, which was pretty much two months ago. Collins has lost five of her last seven matches on hard court.
Naomi Osaka is coming off a straight sets win over Zarina Diyas that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Osaka won 68 percent of her first serve points and 55 percent of her second serve points. Osaka won 61 percent of her total service points and produced five breaks on seven break points. Osaka continues to have everything working for her, and she’s won 11 of her last 12 matches overall. Easily the hottest player in all of tennis, Osaka could improve her first serve percentage, but overall, she’s dominating the competition and has less and less mental lapses that give away games. Osaka now has to be a favorite in every tournament she plays. Osaka hopes to win two matches in a single tournament for the fourth time in her last seven tries. Osaka has won eight straight matches on hard court.
There’s no previous matches between these two players.
Regardless of who she plays, there’s no way you can bet against Osaka in her current form. Osaka is doing everything at a high level and has won 15 of her last 17 sets played. There’s not much Collins, who is still a bit inexperienced, especially against top tier players, can do.
Osaka wins in straight sets… Again.
