Daniil Medvedev vs David Goffin - 01/19/19 ATP Tour - Australian Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Belgian tennis superstar, David Goffin has made it into the third round of the 2019 ATP Australian Open. At this stage of the tournament, David Goffin is set to play Daniil Medvedev from Russia.

Daniil Medvedev enters this match having beaten Ryan Harrison in the previous round. It was a comprehensive win for Medvedev as he won 5 return games to set up a straight sets victory. During the win, Daniil Medvedev served exceptionally well as he won over 80% of the points played during his service games. Furthermore, Medvedev hit 10 aces which helped him win 100% of his service games. Medvedev has been in superb form recent as he finished runners-up at the ATP Brisbane International. Considering his incredible form, Daniil Medvedev will be very hard to beat.

On the other side of the court, David Goffin won his previous match in 4 sets as he beat Marius Copil. Similar to Medvedev, Goffin won 5 break points which allowed him to gain a big advantage over his opponent. It is important to note that Goffin has some issues with his serve, especially early in the match. David Goffin lost 2 service games which resulted in him losing the opening set. It has been a tough few months for David Goffin as his record since the 2018 US Open is set at 3-2. With such a poor run of form leading up to this tournament, Goffin looks low of confidence and that could impact his performance.

This will be the first time that Daniil Medvedev and David Goffin will play against each other.

All in all, I am going to pick Daniil Medvedev to win this match. Medvedev is in incredible form and looks high of confidence having performed well at the ATP Brisbane International. David Goffin looks low on confidence and his recent results have been poor. With such a contrast between the two players, I see Daniil Medvedev winning this match.
