Daniil Medvedev and David Goffin meet in the third round of the 2019 tennis Wimbledon.

Daniil Medvedev is coming off a four sets win over Alexei Popyrin that took 40 games to decide. In the victory, Medvedev won 85 percent of his first serve points and 65 percent of his second serve points. Medvedev won 77 percent of his total service points and converted on five of his 13 break points. Medvedev got 57 percent of his first serves in play, faced just two break points and hit 10 aces. Medvedev has won six of his seven sets this tournament and has produced a combined 25 aces. If Medvedev is going to keep getting free points with his serve, he’s going to be a tough out regardless of opponent. Medvedev looks to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the second time in his career. Medvedev has won five of his last six matches on grass court.

David Goffin is coming off a straight sets win over Jeremy Chardy that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Goffin won 78 percent of his first serve points and 55 percent of his second serve points. Goffin won 69 percent of his total service points and converted on six of his 13 break points. Goffin got 63 percent of his first serves in play, saved two of his three break points and hit nine aces. Goffin has won all six sets this tournament and has really turned his season around on grass, as he’s been one of the hotter players on tour these past few weeks. Goffin hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the fifth time since 2017. Goffin has won eight of his last 10 matches on grass court.

Medvedev won the only previous meeting, which came in this years Australian Open. The match was decided in straight sets and 30 games.

Medvedev may have dominated the only meeting between these two and is the better player overall, but it’s Goffin who has been on a tear this grass season and actually has some betting value with this return turnaround. Goffin has won 10 of his last 13 matches overall and has really controlled the pace lately on these slower courts.

I’ll take a stab with Goffin for a slight upset.

Pick:
David Goffin
