Daniil Medvedev vs Gael Monfils- 2/9/19 ATP Tour - Sofia Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

French tennis player, Gael Monfils, is set to face Russian tennis player, Daniil Medvedev, in the semifinals of the 2019 ATP Sofia Open in Bulgaria.

Daniil Medvedev had a comfortable win the previous round as he beat Martin Klizan in straight sets. It was a dominant display by Medvedev as he won 84% of his service points which ensured that he won 100% of his service games. In addition to that Daniil Medvedev also returned serve exceptionally well as he won 4 break points to ensure he was consistently ahead to his opponent.  It has been a strong 2019 season for Daniil Medvedev as he finished second at the 2019 ATP Brisbane International in January. With the confidence from the win, Daniil Medvedev will be very hard to stop.

On the other side of the court, Gael Monfils beat the very promising Stefanos Tsitsipas in the previous round. It was a dominant display by Monfils as he won all of his service games while breaking his opponents serve on 2 occasions to ensure a comfortable win. Monfils is one of the most exciting players to watch but consistency has been his biggest issue throughout his career which might make it tough for him to challenge an exceptional opponent in Daniil Medvedev.

This is set to be the first time that Gael Monfils and Daniil Medvedev will be playing each other at an ATP event.

Gael Monfils impressed many during his previous match as he beat an elite player in Stefanos Tsitsipas. That being said, I see Monfils losing this match. Medvedev is a much more consistent and reliable player which will make life hard for a dynamic player like Monfils. Medvedev is higher ranked and in better form. I see Daniil Medvedev winning this match and making the finals of this tournament.
