Daria Gavrilova is coming off a straight sets win over Samantha Stosur that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Gavrilova won 81 percent of her first serve points and 65 percent of her second serve points. Gavrilova won 73 percent of her total service points and had just 13 unforced errors. Gavrilova has hit just 24 combined unforced errors in her last two matches, and she has a chance to be the cinderella of this tournament if she can continue to play that clean moving forward. Gavrilova has never been great on grass, but the draw has certainly opened up for her. Gavrilova hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the third time in her career. Gavrilova has never made the fourth round of the Wimbledon. Gavrilova has split her last four matches on grass court.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich is coming off a straight sets win over Taylor Townsend that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Sasnovich won 65 percent of her first serve points and 55 percent of her second serve points. Sasnovich won 56 percent of her return points and converted on six of her 18 break chances, so while she didn’t serve great, she still managed to win rather easily. However, Sasnovich must improve her serve if she’s going to advance any further in this tournament. Sasnovich gets way too many of her first serves in play not to dominate that part of her game. The good news is that Sasnovich has produced 11 breaks in her last two matches. Sasnovich has a chance to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in her career. Sasnovich has split her last four matches on grass court.
These two have played once, which was in the 2017 Rome Masters, a match Gavrilova won in three sets. The match took 26 games to be decided.
Gavrilova is the more experienced player on the big stage and has been playing some flawless tennis this tournament with little to no unforced errors. Sasnovich usually gets bounced around this time of big matches and isn’t serving well enough to trust against a better opponent. This is going to be a tough match for Sasnovich to overcome due to her up and down play at times.
Gavrilova makes the fourth round of the Wimbledon for the first time.
