David Goffin and Adrian Mannarino meet in the quarterfinals of the 2019 tennis Libema Open.

David Goffin is coming off a straight sets win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Goffin won 73 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of his second serve points. Goffin won 67 percent of his total service points and converted on three of his six break points. Goffin got 63 percent of his fist serves in play, faced just two break points and hit 13 aces. Goffin, who has struggled all year to break out of this funk, has won all four sets this tournament and is playing his best tennis with wins in four of his last five matches. This is the Goffin we’re used to seeing, a guy who is never an easy out and usually doesn’t beat himself. Goffin looks to win three straight matches for the first time since last years US Open. Goffin has split his last four matches on grass court.

Adrian Mannarino is coming off a three sets win over Fernando Verdasco that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Mannarino won 58 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Mannarino won 58 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his four break points. Mannarino managed to win a match despite dropping the first set in seven games, and he saved eight of his 12 break points. Mannarino has now won six of his last nine matches that have gone the distance. Mannarino looks to win three straight matches on the main tour for the first time since Moscow back in October. Mannarino has won six of his last eight matches on grass court.

These two have played four times and Goffin has played all four meetings, including the most recent match in 2017 Paris. Three of the four meetings were decided in straight sets. This will be the first ever match on grass.

It’s been a while since Mannarino has made a deep tournament run and he didn’t play great in his last match where he got off to an extremely slow start. Goffin is finally showing some signs of life and is one of the better players in this tournament when he’s playing at the level we’re used to seeing. Goffin has also had no trouble against Mannarino in their past meetings.

You have to side with Goffin to make the semifinals.

Pick:
David Goffin
