David Goffin looks to improve his form as he meets Egor Gerasimov in the second-round of the 2020 Marseille Open. Who will book their spot in the quarterfinals?
David Goffin is a very experienced player who had a great mental ability to stay in tough matches. However, we did not see this from the Belgian world No.10 last week in Rotterdam as he got knocked out in straight sets against Jannik Sinner. Goffin will look to improve his form as he now meets big server, Egor Gerasimov, in the second-round of the 2020 Marseille Open. David Goffin has incredible court coverage, he is able to move opponents around the court with ease, and his forehand is very precise. Goffin showed us his best tennis in 2020 when he beat Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the ATP Cup. Goffin will know he can challenge for the title here in Marseille, he just needs to bounce back from a tough loss.
Egor Gerasimov is a very tough player. Gerasimov is big, has an incredibly big serve, and has already beaten very experienced players in his career. Gerasimov has begun to make a name for himself on the ATP Tour, with victories over well known players like John Isner. Gerasimov knows he can compete in hard-courts because his serve is harder to return than on other surfaces. Gerasimov showed incredible numbers on his serve in his first-round victory over Dennis Novak, winning 86% of his first serves, and an unprecedented 93% of points on his second serve. These numbers are hard to play against and this will give him a chance against David Goffin in the second-round.
This will be the first meeting between both players, and if Gerasimov serves like he did in his first-round match, it will be a tough day at the office for David Goffin. David Goffin is the more experienced player, and he will need to use all the tricks in the book to compete in this one. Eventually, however, Goffin's experience will prevail and win this match in a tight third set.
David Goffin to win.
