Belgian tennis superstar, David Goffin will begin his 2019 ATP Open Sud de France campaign in the second round. At this stage of the tournament, David Goffin is set to face Filip Krajinović from Serbia.
David Goffin has had a decent start to the 2019 season as he won the doubles event at the Qatar Open in January. In regards to singles tennis, there have been no events of note for Goffin for an age as the Belgian superstars last ATP title was in October 2017 at the Japan Open. Injuries have been a big issue Goffin although he is looking fit and there were positive signs in the Australian Open where he played reasonably well. David Goffin has a good record in France as he won the Moselle Open in 2014 so the setting of the event should be positive.
On the other side of the court, Filip Krajinović won his opening round match in straight sets against Nicolas Mahut. It was a decent performance by Filip Krajinović as he won all of his service games while breaking Mahut’s serve on 1 occasion. Filip Krajinović has never won an ATP title and is less accomplished than his opponent which should make this a very challenging game for the Serb.
Filip Krajinović and David Goffin have played twice in the past with Goffin winning on both occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2015 at the Davis Cup where Goffin won in 4 sets.
In regards to this match, I am going to pick David Goffin to win this match. Goffin is a much more accomplished player and he looks to be returning to full fitness and good form. Filip Krajinović has had a decent tournament but I don’t see him being good enough to compete against David Goffin.
