The Citi Open in Washington DC has reached the round of 16 stage where American youngster, Frances Tiafoe, will take on Belgian superstar and world number 11, David Goffin. Both players have been really good in this tournament and will want to make it to the quarterfinals so I am expecting a tennis match filled with commitment and determination. It is always a pleasure to watch David Goffin grace the tennis court and we will be able to witness the world number 11 in this match.
David Goffin is one of the best young tennis players in the world and the Belgian superstar has established that through high-quality performances over the past few seasons. The 27-year-old had a very poor Wimbledon campaign but seems like he has bounced back well in this tournament as he won his opening round match in very convincing fashion as he beat French player, Pierre-Hugues Herbert. This will be a harder test for David Goffin but it should be one that the Belgian superstar can manage with the talent and skill he possesses. It will be important for David Goffin to get some form under his belt since the US Open is only weeks away and the Belgian will be determined to do well at Flushing Meadows.
On the other side of the coin, Frances Tiafoe will look to cause a major upset. The American is only 20 years of age but has shown great maturity and skill for a rookie. Frances Tiafoe has already competed against some of the best players in the world but David Goffin is set to be another hard test and it will be interesting to see if the American can rise to the challenge.
While Frances Tiafoe has impressed me many times, I am going to go against the American and pick David Goffin to win. The Belgian is at a different level to Frances Tiafoe and I don’t see this being a tough match for the world number 11.
