Bautista Agut vs. Goffin
|Date & Time||Thursday April 19, 2018, 11:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: -- Over/Under:
David Goffin and Roberto Bautista Agut meet in the third round of the 2018 tennis Monte Carlo Masters.
David Goffin is coming off a straight sets win over Stefanos Tsitsipas that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Goffin won 71 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Goffin didn’t have the easiest second round victory, but he gave himself 15 break chances and got 68 percent of his first serves in play. Goffin is off to a sluggish start this season overall, but he’s coming off one of his more complete performances despite the competitiveness of the match. It’s the type of victory that should get those juices flowing and lead to a more confident and consistent Goffin moving forward. Goffin hopes to make the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters for the second straight year. Goffin has won five of his last eight matches on clay court.
Roberto Bautista Agut is coming off a straight sets win over Feliciano Lopez that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Bautista Agut won 75 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Bautista Agut has yet to drop a set this tournament, as he’s continuing what has been an impressive 2018, and he’s coming off a match in which he got 71 percent of his first serves in play. Bautista Agut is currently playing some of the best tennis of his life at 30 years old and has a chance to reach his first ever quarterfinal in the Monte Carlo Masters. Bautista Agut also has a chance to reach his fourth career ATP World Tour Masters 1000 quarterfinal. Bautista Agut has won seven of his last nine matches on clay court.
These two have played four times and Bautista Agut has won three of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2017 Sofia Open, a match Goffin won in three sets. Three of the four matches between these two have gone the distance.
Goffin is coming off an impressive victory and did win the most recent match between these two players. However, Bautista Agut is a player I’m not trying to step in front of, as he’s been locked in this season, which includes recently winning the Dubai Tennis Championships and putting together a 13-5 record overall. Bautista Agut is a tough player to bet against at the moment.
Give me the Spaniard to get the job done here.
