Denis Shapovalov and Milos Raonic meet in the third round of the tennis Cincinnati Open.

Denis Shapovalov is coming off a straight sets win over Kyle Edmund that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Shapovalov won 77 percent of his first serve points and 50 percent of his second serve points. Shapovalov won 65 percent of his total service points and managed to save eight of his 10 break points. Shapovalov has now won eight of his last 11 sets on hard court and will continue to be a tough out as long as he dominates his first serve. Shapovalov is at his best when going for his shots and being aggressive, something he’s done in his last two matches. Shapovalov hopes to make a quarterfinal of a ATP World Tour Masters 1000 for the third time in his career. Shapovalov has won five of his last seven matches on hard court.

Milos Raonic is coming off a straight sets win over Malek Jaziri that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Raonic won 97 percent of his first serve points and 55 percent of his second serve points. Raonic won 80 percent of his total service points while hitting 20 aces. In his last two matches combined, Raonic has combined for 33 aces and has lost just 12 first serve points. If Raonic is going to serve like this the rest of the tournament, he’s a serious threat to win the title. Raonic has a chance to make the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open for the fourth time in his career. A win here gives Raonic’s his third quarterfinal trip this year in a ATP World Tour Masters 1000. Raonic has won three of his last four matches on hard court.

These two have played once, which was in this years Madrid Masters, a match Shapovalov won in straight sets. The match took 20 games to be decided.

Shapovalov has the shotmaking ability to win this match, but he’s also a wildly inconsistent player and can take himself out of a match when he’s piling up the unforced errors. On hard court, Raonic has a serious advantage, especially when he’s serving the way he’s been recently. Raonic has played out of his mind the last few sets, making him the safe play here.

Raonic wins in two competitive sets.
