Denis Shapovalov and Mischa Zverev meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis Eastbourne International.

Denis Shapovalov is coming off a three sets win over Josh Donaldson that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Shapovalov won 78 percent of his first serve points and 55 percent of his second serve points. Shapovalov won 70 percent of his total service points and gave himself 12 chances to break. It was a much more complete performance from Shapovalov, especially when you factor in the 11 aces. Shapovalov entered this tournament in very shaky form, but that result should inspire some confidence and lead to what could be his third semifinal trip of the season. Shapovalov has lost two of his last three matches on grass court.

Mischa Zverev is coming off a straight sets win over Steve Johnson that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Zverev won 79 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Zverev is coming off a match in which he won 73 percent of his total service points and wasn’t broken once. Zverev got 79 percent of his first serves in play and hit five aces. If Zverev is going to continue serving like his brother, he’s due for a breakout tournament appearance that would put him in the biggest final of his life at 30 years old. Zverev is playing some sharp tennis at the moment. Zverev has won three of his last five matches on grass court.

This will be the first ever meeting between these two players.

When both of these guys are at the top of their game, Shapovalov is the better player. The problem is it’s hard to trust the Canadian based on how he was playing heading into this tournament. With that said, Zverev isn’t a big match player and usually fizzles out around this time, and I don’t have much confidence he can repeat such a performance.

I’ll side with Shapovalov to win this match.
