Argentine tennis play, Diego Schwartzman has made the second round of the 2019 ATP Monte-Carlo Masters. Schwartzman will now play against Taylor Fritz from the United States.
Taylor Fritz won his previous match during the second set after his opponent, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired. Taylor Fritz had won the opening set 6-4 and was leading the second set 2-0. During the win, Taylor Fritz won 83% of his service games and broke his opponents serve on 3 occasions. The win was impressive but Fritz’s power style doesn’t seem suited to the clay courts and he will be challenged in this match.
On the other side of the coin, Diego Schwartzman is a clay-court specialist. Schwartzman beat Kyle Edmund in the previous round in 3 sets. It was a slow start for Schwartzman as he lost the opening set but the Argentine proved his skill by winning the final 2 sets with ease. Schwartzman is a very good receiver and the slow pace of clay allows him to utilize his skill very efficiently. During the win over Edmund, Diego Schwartzman won 50% of the points played during his opponent's serve. Diego Schwartzman won 7 return games which allowed him to win the overall match. It has been a strong few months for Diego Schwartzman as he finished second at the Argentina Open.
Taylor Fritz and Diego Schwartzman have played each other once in the past. Schwartzman won that match in straight sets.
Taylor Fritz is a very capable player and he has impressed many critics this season. Having said that, I see Diego Schwartzman winning this match. Schwartzman is a level above Fritz on clay. Taylor Fritz relies heavily on his serve which is greatly neutralized on clay. Schwartzman is an exceptional receiver and I see him breaking the Taylor Fritz serve with ease on this surface. Schwartzman looks in good form and I see him winning this match.
