Italian qualifier, Alessandro Giannessi has made it into the second round of the 2019 ATP Cordoba Open. At this stage of the event, Giannessi is set to take on the number 3 seed, Diego Schwartzman from Argentina.
Alessandro Giannessi won his opening round match in 3 sets as he beat Thiago Seyboth Wild. It was a close game which was decided finally by a third set tiebreaker which Alessandro Giannessi won. It was a solid performance by Alessandro Giannessi as he won 83% of his service games while breaking his opponents serve on 4 occasions. Alessandro Giannessi is not an established player in the ATP tour and is more commonly seen playing Challenger events which might make it tough for him to adjust to playing a quality player like Diego Schwartzman.
On the other side of the court, Diego Schwartzman received an opening round bye due to his high seeding. It has been a decent start to the 2019 season for Schwartzman as he made the semifinals of the ATP Sydney International and the third round of the Australian Open. Diego Schwartzman is an exceptional clay court player and he has proven that by winning 2 ATP titles on this surface. Furthermore, Schwartzman will be playing in his home country. With the conditions in his favour, Diego Schwartzman will be very hard to beat.
This will be the first time that Diego Schwartzman and Alessandro Giannessi will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Alessandro Giannessi has had a decent tournament as he played well in the qualifiers and in his opening round fixture. That being said, Alessandro Giannessi is not an usual on the ATP tour and is very rarely tested against players ranked in the top 20. Diego Schwartzman is world number 20 and a much more skilled and accomplished player when compared to Alessandro Giannessi. With that in mind, I see Diego Schwartzman winning this match.
