Tennis | Borna Coric vs Dominic Thiem
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Austrian superstar, Dominic Thiem has made it into the third round of the 2018 ATP Paris Masters where he will Borna Coric from Croatia.

Dominic Thiem had a comfortable win in the second round as he beat Gilles Simon in straight sets. During the win, Dominic Thiem returned serve exceptionally well as he won over 50% of the points played during Simon’s serve which allowed him to win 5 break points. Thiem entered this tournament in good form as he recently won the 2018 St Petersburg Open in Russia. The third round is the furthest Dominic Thiem has ever made at the Paris Masters but considering his recent improvement and form, he will be very confident that he can continue further in this tournament.

On the other side of the coin, Borna Coric won his second round match in straight sets. It was a convincing win for Coric as he won all of his service games while winning 2 return games. This will be a tough match for Coric as his opponent is ranked among the top 10 in the world and will test the Croatian. If Borna Coric will want to compete, he will need to be at his best.

Borna Coric and Dominic Thiem have played 3 times in the past. Coric won one of those matches which Thiem has beaten Coric twice. Dominic Thiem won the last meeting between these two players which was at the Madrid Masters this season.

All in all, I am going to pick Dominic Thiem to win this match. While Borna Coric has looked good in this tournament, he is no match for the quality of Dominic Thiem. Thiem is one of the top players in the world and with his confidence high after recent wins, I see him making the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters.
