The Line: -- Over/Under:
Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev are set to play each other in the quarterfinals of the 2019 ATP Rogers Cups in Montreal.
Dominic Thiem looks very impressive in the previous round as he defeated Marin Cilic in straight sets. During the win, Thiem impressed with his serving as he hit 10 aces which helped him win 70% of his service points. Dominic Thiem won 100% of his service games, 1 return game, and 1 tiebreaker to secure a comfortable win. It has been a very strong few months for Dominic Thiem as he had an extremely strong clay-court season where he made the final of the French Open and won tournaments like the Austrian Open and Barcelona Open. Considering his recent result, Dominic Thiem will be very confident as he enters this match.
On the other side of the coin, Daniil Medvedev defeated Christian Garin in straight sets in the previous round. It was a dominant display by Medvedev as he impressed with his receiving. Daniil Medvedev won 46% of his receiving points which allowed him to break his opponent’s serve on 4 occasions. The serving was also solid from Daniil Medvedev as he won 89% of his service games. Medvedev made the final of the Citi Open last week which shows that the Russian is in very good form.
Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem have played each other twice in the past. Thiem has won on both occasions. The most recent match between these two players was earlier in the season at the Barcelona Open where Dominic Thiem won in straight sets. Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev have never played each other on outdoor hard courts like those present at the Rogers Cup.
This should be an extremely interesting tennis match since Thiem and Medvedev are both elite players and both have been playing exceptional tennis. As far as predicting a winner is concerned, I am going to pick Dominic Thiem to win. Thiem seems to have an edge over Medvedev in head-to-head matches and the previous matches between these two players should see the Austrian having the momentum on his side. It should be a close match but I see Dominic Thiem doing enough to win.
