Dominic Thiem aims to reach the semifinals of the 2020 Rio de Janeiro Open as he meets Gianluca Mager in the quarterfinals. Who will come out on top?
Dominic Thiem put on an absolute display of resilience against Jaume Munar, coming back from a set and a break down to win it in 3 sets. Thiem was very tense in that match, but in the big moments like break points he maintained his composure and executed. Thiem converted 5 out of 8 break points and saved 6 out of 8. Thiem had to use all his experience in that match and he will be hoping to have an easier ride in the quarterfinals.
Gianluca Mager beat Joao Domingues in straight sets to book his spot in the quarterfinals. Mager is a good player on clay, he is able to move around the courts quickly and this allows him to get to most balls. Mager struggled on his second serve in that match but he was able to counter every time Domingues was knocking on his door. Mager will know he has his work cut out for him when he meets the No.1 seed.
This will be the first encounter between Thiem and Mager, and unfortunately for Mager, this is going to be a Dominic Thiem domination. Thiem overcame a scare and he does not want to have to do that again, he will come out focused and will absolutely dominate Mager from the start.
Dominic Thiem to win.
