Austrian tennis superstar, Dominic Thiem, has continued his good form at the 2019 ATP Indian Wells by making the final 16. At this stage of the tournament, Dominic Thiem will play against Ivo Karlović from Croatia.
Ivo Karlović had a solid win the previous round as he Prajnesh Gunneswaran from India in straight sets. During the win, Karlović impressed with his serve as he hit 16 aces and had a first serve percentage of over 70%. Ivo Karlović won 78% of his service points which ensured that he won all of his service games. While the serving was very strong, it is important to note that Ivo Karlović is a very poor receiver. Ivo Karlović only won 30% of his receiving points which meant that the Croatian only won 1 break point in the entire match. Karlović will need to challenge Thiem’s serve much more consistently if he wishes to compete in this match.
On the other side of the net, Dominic Thiem enters this match after beating Gilles Simon in the previous round. It was a very easy win for Thiem as he won 88% of his service games and broke Simon’s serve on 5 occasions. Thiem only lost 3 games in the entire match. Dominic Thiem has looked in very good form all tournament which means he should enter this match with some confidence.
This will be the first time that Dominic Thiem and Ivo Karlović will play each other at an ATP event.
Ivo Karlović has had a decent tournament but I see him losing this match. Dominic Thiem is a much stronger player and I think his strong defensive skills will be too much for Ivo Karlović who relies very heavily on his serve. Thiem is looking in exceptional form and I see him winning this match and getting the victory.
