Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic will play each other in the third round of the 2019 ATP Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Marin Cilic looked very impressive in the previous round as he defeated John Millman in straight sets. During the win, Marin Cilic was very strong while serving as he hit 7 aces which helped him win 71% of her service points. Marin Cilic won 90% of his service games and 3 return games to secure an easy win. It has been a solid tournament for Marin Cilic as he has won both of his tournaments in straight sets. 2019 has been a tough season for Marin Cilic as he has had issues with injuries. Cilic seems to be finding decent form but this is expected to be a very tough match as he is playing against the number 2 seed.

Dominic Thiem defeated Denis Shapovalov in 3 sets in the previous round. It was a good performance by Dominic Thiem as she won 93% of his service games and 2 return games. The serving was especially impressive from Dominic Thiem as he hit 9 aces and won 74% of his service points. Dominic Thiem has been in outstanding form having won the Austrian Open last week. Considering his recent results, Dominic Thiem will be very hard to defeat in this tournament.

Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic have played each other once in the past. The match was played in 2016 at the quarterfinals of the ATP Brisbane International in Australia. It was a close match that Dominic Thiem won in 3 sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Dominic Thiem to win. Thiem has been in supreme form and he looks to be playing with great confidence. Cilic has struggled with injury and doesn’t seem to be back to his best. At the moment, Thiem is the stronger player and I see him winning and secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

Pick:
Dominic Thiem
