The Line: -- Over/Under:
Dominic Thiem will play at the 2019 ATP Cincinnati Masters. Thiem will begin his tournament in the second round where he will face Richard Gasquet from France.
Dominic Thiem will begin his tournament in the second round after receiving an opening-round bye due to his high seeding. Dominic Thiem enters this tournament in decent form following a relatively successful Rogers Cup. Thiem made the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup where he defeated the likes of Denis Shapovalov and Marin Cilic. Thiem was eliminated by Daniil Medvedev. Since Wimbledon, Dominic Thiem has a record of 8-2 including winning the Austrian Open. Dominic Thiem has a decent record at the Cincinnati Masters as he has made the quarterfinals of this tournament twice. Considering his current form, I see Dominic Thiem being a major contender for the title.
On the other side of the coin, Richard Gasquet defeated Andy Murray in straight sets in the previous round. While Murray was not at full fitness, Gasquet still showed his class as he made few mistakes. Richard Gasquet won 90% of his service games and 3 return games to secure a comfortable win. Prior to arriving at the Cincinnati Master, Gasquet played at the Rogers Cup where he made the third round. Gasquet defeated Kei Nishikori at the Rogers Cup. Richard Gasquet looks in good form but this is expected to be a tough match as he is playing against the number 4 seed.
Richard Gasquet and Dominic Thiem have played each other twice in the past with Gasquet winning on both occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2017 at ATP Vienna where Gasquet won in 3 sets.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Dominic Thiem to win this match. Gasquet has been playing well but I see him struggling against a much stronger player. Thiem has established himself as an elite player and the Austrian has been in outstanding form having recently won the Austrian Open. Dominic Thiem looks to be too good for Gasquet and I see the Austrian winning this match with some ease.
