Austrian tennis superstar, Dominic Thiem will be playing at the 2019 French Open. Thiem will begin his 2019 campaign against Tommy Paul from the United States.

Dominic Thiem is considered by many to be the favourite to win this tournament. Thiem was exceptional last season at Roland Garros as he finished second. Thiem has been very strong during the clay court season as he won the ATP Barcelona Open and made the semifinals of the ATP Madrid Masters. Thiem is a very athletic player and his style of tennis is very well suited to the conditions at the French Open. In the past 3 seasons, Thiem has made 2 French Open semifinals and 1 French Open final so I am expecting the Austrian to enter this match filled with confidence.

On the other side of the coin, Tommy Paul enters this match following some successful results in Challenger tournaments. Paul won the Challenger Sarasota event in April and that win will give the American confidence as he heads into this fixture. That being said, Tommy Paul has not played in a full ATP tournament in 2019 and it will be very tough for him to start his campaign against the number 4 seed. This will be the first time that Tommy Paul will be playing at the French Open.

Tommy Paul and Dominic Thiem have not played each other in the past.

This is expected to be a big tournament for Dominic Thiem and there are huge expectations on the Austrian to do very well in this tournament. Thiem has been close to the French Open title for 3 seasons and with Nadal past his peak, it seems like the Austrian could win his first title at Roland Garros. As far as this match is concerned, Thiem should win with ease. Thiem is a significantly stronger player and I see him getting the victory in straight sets.

Pick:
Dominic Thiem
