Dusan Lajovic and Fabio Fognini meet in the final of the 2019 tennis Monte Carlo.

Dusan Lajovic is coming off a straight sets win over Daniil Medvedev that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Lajovic won 67 percent of his first serve points and 41 percent of his second serve points. Lajovic won 58 percent of his total service points and converted on six of his 12 break points. Lajovic has won all 10 sets this tournament and has produced a combined 14 breaks in his last three matches. This is easily some of the best tennis we’ve ever seen from Lajovic at 28 years old. Lajovic has a chance to win his first ever ATP singles title in his first ever final appearance. Lajovic has won five of his last seven matches on clay court.

Fabio Fognini is coming off a straight sets win over Rafael Nadal that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Fognini won 63 percent of his first serve points and 54 percent of his second serve points. Fognini won 58 percent of his total service points and converted on six of his 10 break points. Fognini ended Nadal’s ridiculous streak on clay and can now say he’s beaten him three times on his favorite surface. It’s easily one of the biggest upsets of the of the year up to this point. Fognini hopes to win his first title since last years Los Cabos Open and the ninth title of his career. Fognini has won five of his last eight final appearances overall and is 7-6 in final appearances on clay for his career. Fognini has a chance to win his first ever Masters 1000 title. Fognini has won five of his last six matches on clay court.

There’s no match history between these two players.

I’ve bet against Lajovic pretty much this entire tournament and it’s come back to bite me. One more bet won’t hurt. Lajovic has been flawless and hasn’t dropped a set, but the guys he’s going up against are more seasoned in tournaments like this and are easier to trust under the bright lights. Fognini showed great composure to come back and beat Coric in the quarterfinals, and he made light work of the best clay player in the world. It’s hard to bet against the Italian in this spot.

I like Fognini to win his first Masters 1000 title.

Pick:
Fabio Fognini
