Ekaterina Makarova and Camila Giorgi meet in the fourth round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.

Ekaterina Makarova is coming off a three sets win over Lucie Safarova that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Makarova won 76 percent of her first serve points and 46 percent of her second serve points. Makarova won 67 percent of her total service points and had 34 winners to 14 unforced errors. Makarova has had to play three sets in all three of her matches, but she finds ways to win the big points and grind out victories. Makarova is coming off her cleanest match of the tournament and needs to keep her unforced errors total under 20 if she hopes to advance. Makarova hopes to make her seventh career grand slam quarterfinal and first since the 2015 Australian Open. Makarova has won three of her last five matches on grass court.

Camila Giorgi is coming off a three sets win over Katerina Siniakova that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Giorgi won 69 percent of her first serve points and 31 percent of her second serve points. Giorgi won a match despite winning just 54 percent of her total service points and hitting 44 unforced errors. While you take wins however you can get them, Giorgi has 74 unforced errors in her last two matches, and that’s a number that’s not going to get you any further in the tournament. Giorgi has to play much cleaner tennis if she hopes to have a breakthrough grand slam experience. Giorgi hopes to make her first ever grand slam quarterfinal. Giorgi is 0-2 in previous grand slam fourth round matches. Giorgi has won five of her last seven matches on grass court.

There’s no previous matches between these two players.

Both of these players have been very sloppy in terms of unforced errors, so you’re likely looking at a sloppy match. The difference for me is that Makarova has been slightly better overall and is coming off her best match of the tournament. Makarova also has slightly more experience and success on the big stage, while Giorgi has been in the fourth round of a grand slam just twice.

Makarova should grind out another victory.

Pick:
Ekaterina Makarova
