Elina Svitolina and Caroline Wozniacki meet Saturday afternoon in the Miami Masters.

Elina Svitolina is coming off a straight sets win over Shuai Zhang in which she lost just three games. Svitolina is off to a solid start in 2016, winning 10 of her last 13 matches, and she’s become a top-15 player for the first time in her career. At just 21 years old, Svitolina is quickly on the rise, which includes winning the Malaysian Open and picking up a victory over Garbiñe Muguruza in Dubai. Svitolina is clearly one of the young rising stars in the women’s game and may be in store for her best season yet, especially if she can creep into the top-10. Svitolina has made at least the third round in each of her previous appearances at the Miami Masters.

Caroline Wozniacki is coming off a straight sets win over Vania King in which she lost seven games. Wozniacki has really been off her game dating back to last season, and she could use this tournament as a stepping stone to get back on track after falling out of the top-20. However, Wozniacki has split her last 10 matches and has really struggled with unforced errors, holding serve and keeping her emotions in check. At just 25 years old, it’s way too early to write off Wozniacki, but the constant recent struggles are more than alarming. Wozniacki has made at least the fourth round in seven of her eight appearances at the Miami Masters.

This will be the first time Wozniacki and Svitolina meet on the tennis court.

Svitolina is probably in better form right now, but I’m just not ready to give up on Wozniacki despite her struggles. Wozniacki has had great success in Miami and is still the better player when on top of her game.

In a match that could go either way, I’d side with Wozniacki.
