The Line: -- Over/Under:
Elina Svitolina and Jelena Ostapenko meet in the fourth round of the 2017 Wimbledon.
Elina Svitolina is coming off a straight sets win over Carina Witthoeft that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Svitolina won 69 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Svitolina has dropped just nine games in her last four sets and is coming off a match in which she won 54 percent of her return points. Svitolina has been extremely successful on the return in this tournament and has given herself 27 break chances in her last three matches. That’s a formula that can lead to more victories for the 22-year-old Svitolina. Svitolina hopes to make her third career grand slam quarterfinal and first ever in the Wimbledon. Svitolina has won five of his last seven matches on grass court.
Jelena Ostapenko is coming off a straight sets win over Camila Giorgi that took 24 games to decide. In the victory, Ostapenko won 75 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Ostapenko is coming off her best match of the tournament in which she gave herself eight break chances and dropped just nine of 36 first serve points. Ostapenko has also produced 79 winners in her first three matches, which is what helped her win the French Open title. Ostapenko has now won 23 of her last 32 sets played and is quickly growing up before our eyes, becoming one of the top young female players in the world. Ostapenko hopes to make her second career grand slam quarterfinal. Ostapenko has won four of her last five matches on grass court.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
This is a toss-up to me, as both of these young players are performing at a high level and are eager for consistent grand slam success. It’s hard to bet against Ostapenko given what she just did in the French and how she’s hitting winners consistently. However, Svitolina has been the better player so far this tournament and her return ability gives her the edge in my eyes. Svitolina will give herself enough break chances to pull this match off.
I like Svitolina to advance to her first Wimbledon quarterfinals.
