Ukrainian tennis superstar, Elina Svitolina is set to play at the 2020 Australian Open in Melbourne. Svitolina will begin her tournament against Katie Boulter from the United Kingdom.
Elina Svitolina started her season at the Brisbane International where she was eliminated in the opening round. It was a poor match for Svitolina with the Ukrainian looking extremely rusty. Despite that result, Svitolina should be confident as she enters this match as she had an extremely strong 2019 season. Svitolina made the semifinals of the US Open and Wimbledon which proved that she could be considered a genuine contender for this tournament. Elina Svitolina also managed to finish the 2019 season with strength as she made the final of the WTA Finals in China. 2020 is expected to be a huge season for Elina Svitolina and she should be optimistic about her chances at this tournament.
Katie Boulter, on the other side of the coin, enters this tournament following a poor campaign at the Adelaide International. Boulter was eliminated during the opening round of the Adelaide International where she was eliminated by Bernarda Pera. Katie Boulter has no major achievements on the WTA tour although she made the second round of the Australian Open in 2019. The draw looks tough for Katie Boulter as she is playing against the number 5 seed in the opening round.
This will be the first time that Katie Boulter and Elina Svitolina will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Katie Boulter is considered to be a talented player but I don’t see her being at the level where she can compete with Elina Svitolina. Elina Svitolina had an exceptional 2019 season and she should be able to compete for the title. There is a big gap in skill between these two players and I see Elina Svitolina being good enough to win this fixture in straight sets.
