Elina Svitolina and Madison Keys meet in the fourth round of the 2019 tennis US Open.
Elina Svitolina is coming off a straight sets win over Dayana Yastremska that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Svitolina won 79 percent of her first serve points and 57 percent of her second serve points. Svitolina won 70 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her six break points. Svitolina got 57 percent of her first serves in play, saved both of her break points and hit five aces. Svitolina won each of the last seven games to close out the match and hasn’t dropped a set this tournament. Svitolina looks to make her sixth career grand slam quarterfinal and first ever at the US Open. Svitolina is 5-4 in career grand slam fourth round matches. Svitolina has won six of her last eight matches on hard court.
Madison Keys is coming off a straight sets win over Sofia Kenin that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Keys won 83 percent of her first serve points and 42 percent of her second serve points. Keys won 72 percent of her total service points and converted on two of her three break points. Keys got 73 percent of her first serves in play, saved all eight of her break points and hit 10 aces. Keys can still clean up the unforced errors here and there, but she’s now won 13 straight sets and is hitting her spots with more confidence. Keys hopes to make her eighth career grand slam quarterfinal appearance, which would include three straight at the US Open. Keys has five wins over top-10 players dating back to last year. Keys has won each of her last nine matches on hard court.
These two have played three times and Keys has won two of those matches, including the meeting in the 2017 US Open. However, Svitolina won the most recent match in this years Australian Open. The two completed matches between these two have gone the distance.
Svitolina has been impressive through three matches and is more than capable of getting the job done here as long as she improves her percentage when it comes to getting the first serve in play. However, Keys has really thrived at the US Open these past few years and has simply been on a roll these past couple of weeks. Keys is hitting the ball with more controlled power and it’s really tough for most opponents to keep up with. When Keys isn’t an unforced error machine, she controls most points and has to be a strong bet to win the match.
With the crowd behind her, Keys makes the quarters in New York for the third straight time.
