Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Ukrainian superstar, Elina Svitolina has made it into the second round of the WTA Hong Kong Open where she will be playing Nao Hibino from Japan.

Nao Hibino enters this match enters this match having beaten Samantha Stosur in straight sets in the opening round. Nao Hibino served exceptionally well in that match as she won all of her service games. Furthermore, Nao Hibino broke Stosur’s serve on 3 occasions to set up a comfortable victory. Nao Hibino has been in decent form as she has made decent runs in her past few tournaments including the Pan Pacific Open and Japan Open. That being said, this is expected to be an extremely tough match for Nao Hibino as she will be playing an opponent who is among the best in the world and the Japanese superstar will need to be at her best if she wishes to compete.

On the other side of the coin, Elina Svitolina enters this match having beaten Priscilla Hon in straight sets. It was an easy win for Svitolina as broke her opponents serve on 5 occasions. Elina Svitolina is the 5th best player in the world and she has a good record in Asia having won the WTA Malaysian Open and WTA Taiwan Open.

Svitolina is significantly higher ranked than her opponent and has a lot more experience on her side. Elina Svitolina is ranked over 90 places above Nao Hibino and has won 11 more titles than Nao Hibino. Such a difference will make it very hard for Nao Hibino to challenge her opponent.

This will be the first time that Nao Hibino and Elina Svitolina will play each other at a WTA event.

All in all, I am picking Elina Svitolina to win this match. Svitolina is a much better player and has more experience on her side. Having won her opening round match with ease, Svitolina looks to be hitting the ball cleanly. I see Svitolina making the third round of the tournament.

Pick:
Elina Svitolina
