Elina Svitolina will play Priscilla Hon in the opening round of the 2018 WTA Hong Kong Open.
Priscilla Hon has had a rough few weeks as her best performance since the US Open was a second round appearance at the Korea Open. In her last match, Hon lost to Mandy Minella in straight sets. During that defeat, Hon had big issues with her serve as she won only 40% of her service games. This issue has been consistent for Hon as she has lost 11 service games in her last 2 defeats. This is expected to be an extremely tough match for Hon as she looks in bad form and is playing an opponent who is among the top 10 players in the world.
On the other side of the court, Elina Svitolina enters this match as world number 7. Similar to Hon, Svitolina has also struggled since the US Open although she did make the fourth round at Flushing Meadows so that shows she in not in bad form. Svitolina has a very strong record in Asia as she has won the WTA Malaysian Open and WTA Taiwan Open. Svitolina is known as an exceptional baseline player and she is very strong at receiving serve. With Hon struggling with her service game, Svitolina seems to have the perfect strength to exploit her opponents weakness.
This will be the first time that Elina Svitolina and Priscilla Hon will be playing each other.
All in all, I am going to pick Elina Svitolina to win this match. Svitolina is ranked over 200 spots above Hon and there is a great difference in skill and ability. Furthermore. Hon has been in very poor form. With Elina Svitolina having a strong record in Asia, I see her winning and making the second round of the Hong Kong Open.
