Elise Mertens vs Kaia Kanepi 4/3/19 Charleston Open Tennis Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Belgian tennis player, Elise Mertens will be playing at the 2019 WTA Charleston Open in South Carolina. Mertens will begin her campaign in the second round where she will play against Kaia Kanepi from Estonia.

Kaia Kanepi enters this match having won her previous match in straight sets. During the win, Kanepi received serve exceptionally well as she won 49% of her receiving points. Kanepi won 4 break points which helped her to win the match outright. In addition to her receiving, Kanepi also had a good service match as she won 73% of her service games. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Kaia Kanepi as her opponent is much more accomplished.

On the other side of the coin, Elise Mertens received an opening round bye due to her high seeding. Prior to arriving at the Charleston Open, Elise Mertens played at the Miami Open and the Indian Wells Open. While Mertens failed at both singles events, she showed her class in doubles tennis as she won the doubles title at both venues. Mertens looks to be playing exceptional tennis and her confidence will be high considering her two title wins.

This will be the first time that Elise Mertens and Kaia Kanepi will be playing each other at a WTA event.

Kaia Kanepi had a solid win in the opening round of this tournament and the Estonian looks in decent touch having won matches at her previous tournaments. That being said, I see Elise Mertens winning this match. Elise Mertens looks in exceptional form which she has displayed in doubles tennis. Mertens is hugely talented and her style of tennis should suit the hard courts where she can use her height to her advantage to extract great bounce. Mertens looks in good form and I see her easing into the third round of this tournament.

Pick:
E. Mertens -159
