Elise Mertens vs Mihaela Buzărnescu 2018 Stanford Classic Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The Stanford Classic tennis tournament has reached the semifinals stage with only 4 players remaining to fight it out for the title. One of the semifinals will be between the number 4 seed, Elise Mertens from Belgium, and the number 5 seed, Mihaela Buzărnescu from Romania. Both players have played very well in this tournament and will be determined to ensure they can make it to the final.

Mihaela Buzărnescu has been in incredible form over the past few months in both singles and doubles tennis. The Romanian has made deep runs in all her recent tournaments which included a very impressive campaign at Wimbledon. That being said, Mihaela Buzărnescu has never won a WTA singles title and she will feel that she deserves to win one. This will be a great chance since she has already made it to a very late stage of the tournament and I am sure she doesn’t want to let this opportunity simply pass by.

Elise Mertens, on the other hand, will also be keen to win and make it to the final. The Belgian superstar was very good at Wimbledon and this tournament has shown that she has been carrying that form through. The number 4 seed has been very dominant in both her matches in San Jose and will feel that she is playing some really good tennis. This will be one of the biggest tests of the tournament for Elise Mertens and it will be interesting to see if the Belgian can step up to the challenge.

Both players are very evenly matched and that should ensure that we get a good tennis match. This is not the easiest game to predict but I am going to side with Elise Mertens winning. The Belgian has shown better form in the big games and I think that ability to handle pressure will be enough to get her the win.
