Eugenie Bouchard vs. Simona Halep 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

Eugenie Bouchard and Simona Halep will play Thursday in the 2014 Wimbledon semifinals.

Bouchard is having a wonderful breakout season to her career, as she’s now reached the semifinals of the first three Grand Slams. The 20-year-old is now looking to take that next step by reaching the final. Bouchard has yet to lose a set in this tournament and that even includes her most recent match against Angelique Kerber, a match that needed no more than 10 games to be decided. Bouchard has done a wonderful job in this tournament of picking her spots to be aggressive and turning up the intensity at the right time. As long as she can continue to be a little more patient than usual, she’ll have a great chance of winning this match.

Halep is one win away from reaching her second straight Grand Slam final. She’s done a wonderful job of cruising through this tournament, as Lesia Tsurenko was the only player who was able to steal a set, which came in the second round. In fact, Halep’s last two matches, including a match against Sabine Lisicki, has included a set where no games were won from her opponent. Like Bouchard, Halep is also an aggressive player who prides herself on hitting unbelievable winners.

These two rising stars have played only once and that came in this year’s Indian Wells Masters. Halep won the match in three hard fought sets, with the last set involving 10 games played. This will be the first time the two have ever played one another on grass.

This match is as even as you can get, but I have little choice but to take Halep to win. Not only did she win the last match between these two, she’s bullied some quality competition and has been here before by just reaching a final at the French Open. Meanwhile, Bouchard has fallen short in the last two Grand Slam semifinals she’s appeared in.

The price is somewhat cheap, so I’d pick Halep to reach yet another Grand Slam final.
