German tennis superstar, Alexander Zverev will begin his 2019 ATP Monte Carlo Masters campaign in the second round. Zverev will begin his tournament against Felix Auger Aliassime from Canada.
Alexander Zverev received an opening round bye due to his high seeding. The German enters this tournament is poor touch since Zverev has failed to make it past the quarter-final stage of a tournament since the Mexican Open which concluded at the start of March. That being said, Alexander Zverev should be excited to return to Monte Carlo as he has an exceptional record at this venue. Zverev made the semifinals of this event last season and his win rate is 67%. Zverev is a good clay-court player and he has won the Masters 1000 tournaments in the past so the German should be tough to beat.
In comparison, Felix Auger Aliassime played in the opening round and won his match in straight sets. During the win, Felix Auger Aliassime won 83% of his service games and 25% of his return games. It was a solid win for the Canadian but Felix Auger Aliassime will be aware that this is going to be a much tougher match since he is playing the number 3 seed.
This will be the first time that Felix Auger Aliassime and Alexander Zverev will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Felix Auger Aliassime has been very impressive this season and he has made big runs at events such as the Miami Masters where he made the semifinals. Felix Auger Aliassime will be a tough prospect to beat but I see the Canadian losing this match. Alexander Zverev is an elite tennis player and while the German has struggled recently, things are still positive as he seems to be hitting the ball very cleanly. Alexander Zverev is much more accomplished and has a better record on clay when compared to Felix Auger Aliassime. Felix Auger Aliassime is a good play but I see Zverev taking the win.
