Italian tennis player, Thomas Fabbiano will play against Fernando Verdasco in the third round of Wimbledon.
Thomas Fabbiano won a 5 set marathon in the previous round as he defeated Ivo Karlovic. During the win, Fabbiano capitalized on a weak receiver by winning all of his service games. The impressive component of the victory for Thomas Fabbiano was his receiving as he broke Ivo Karlovic’s serve on 3 occasions.
It has been a very good tournament for Thomas Fabbiano as he eliminated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening round. Thomas Fabbiano has been in good form as he made the semifinal of the Eastbourne International prior to arriving at Wimbledon.
On the other side of the coin, Fernando Verdasco was also involved in a 5 set marathon as he defeated Kyle Edmund from the United Kingdom. It was a determined performance by Verdasco as he lost the opening 2 sets but fought back to win the overall match. During the win, Fernando Verdasco won close to 80% of his service games and 6 return games.
Fernando Verdasco is hugely experienced although he has never made it past the third round at Wimbledon.
Fernando Verdasco and Thomas Fabbiano have played each other once in the past. The match was played earlier in the season at Dubai where Fernando Verdasco won in 3 sets.
Taking everything into consideration, I am picking Thomas Fabbiano to win this match. While Fernando Verdasco has battled hard in this tournament, the Spaniard is past his peak fitness and I see him having issues with fatigue. Fabbiano is much younger and he should be much fresher as he enters this match. Looking at recent form, Fabbiano has been playing better tennis leading up to this tournament. Verdasco has never been strong on grass and I don’t see him having enough to beat an inform Fabbiano
