Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

French tennis superstar, Gael Monfils has made it into the third round of the 2019 ATP Indian Wells Open in California. At this stage of the tournament, Gael Monfils will play against Albert Ramos Viñolas from Spain.

Albert Ramos Viñolas enters this match having won his previous match in straight sets against the number 15 seed, Marco Cecchinato. It was an exceptional performance by Albert Ramos Viñolas who impressed with his serving. During the win, Ramos Viñolas won 70% of his service points which allowed him to win all of his service games. In addition to his serving, Albert Ramos Viñolas managed to break his opponents serve on 3 occasions which ensured a comfortable win for the Spaniard.

On the other side of the coin, Gael Monfils won his previous match in 3 sets against Leonardo Mayer from Argentina. It was a good match with both Mayers and Monfils returning serve well. Monfils took a lead in the final set which allowed him to win the overall match. It has been a strong few weeks for Gael Monfils as he won the ATP Rotterdam Open and made the semifinals of the ATP Dubai Tennis Championships. Monfils looks to be playing a lot of confidence which is making him very tough to beat.

Albert Ramos Viñolas and Gael Monfils have played each other twice in the past with Monfils winning on both occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2016 at this event where Monfils won in straight sets.

Albert Ramos Viñolas has played well in this tournament but I see him losing this match. Gael Monfils has been in exceptional form over the past few months and the Frenchman is playing with tons of confidence. Monfils is the stronger player and I see him winning this match.
