Gael Monfils has reached the 2020 Rotterdam Open Final for two years in a row. The Frenchman now meets Felix Auger-Aliassime in what should be an extremely tight encounter. Will Monfils defend his title and achieve a 10th career title, or will Felix Auger-Aliassime achieve his first ATP title?
Felix Auger-Aliassime won an incredible match against Pablo Carreno Busta where Felix showed a lot of mental strength when he could have given the match away. Felix is now the youngest finalist at the Rotterdam Open ever, beating Roger Federer's record by 3 days! Felix Auger-Aliassime had a bad second half of 2019, but we can now see that he has done a lot of hard work behind closed doors. Felix Auger-Aliassime's serve was very strong today and he was able to maintain his patience in long rallies and letting his opponent making the mistake rather than trying to go for the winner quickly and potentially missing. FAA will want to make the most of his first ATP500 final and he can definitely compete in this one. Will FAA achieve his first title and have his breakthrough season this year?
Gael Monfils once again beat Filip Krajinovic in straight sets. Monfils played amazingly against Krajinovic and really did not give the Serb too many chances to take. Krajinovic left it all out on the court, even saving 4 match points in the second set! Monfils showed patience and he was able to focus in on the important moments. Monfils was down a mini-break in the second set tiebreak at 5-4 and was able to win 3 points in a row to seal the victory. Monfils is now aiming for his 10th career title. Monfils has seemed very tired in his matches and that is because he has basically been playing every day for the last two weeks. Monfils will have to rest up well and refocus if he wants to be able to play at his best level on Sunday.
This will be the first meeting between these two players, and it will be such a thrilling encounter. Both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gael Monfils have a fun style of play which provides great entertainment to the crowd. Monfils cannot take the FAA too lightly as an opponent because the Canadian rising star is more than capable of putting on a show and stealing this match. However, I believe that Monfils has changed a lot in recent years, he is more focused on winning in the big moments and he will come into this match extremely focused and prepared. Monfils will win his 10th career title on Sunday.
Gael Monfils to win.
