Gael Monfils vs Richard Gasquet 2018 Wimbledon Pick, Preview, Odds, Predictions

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

French superstar, Gael Monfils, will begin his Wimbledon campaign on the first day of competition. The dynamic entertainer will take on another French player, Richard Gasquet. This is a big game between two players that have been at the top of world tennis and that should lead to a close and entertaining contest.

Richard Gasquet enters this match as the 23rd seed at Wimbledon. The former world number 7 made the semifinals of this competition in 2015 and he will be determined to perform similarly this year. Gasquet seems to be in good form at the moment considering that he has won a tournament after the French Open. That will give the Frenchman tons of confidence heading into this match. It is also important to note that Richard Gasquet hasn’t played any tennis for a few weeks which should mean that he is fresh and rested for this tournament.

On the other side of the court, Gael Monfils is coming off an ATP semifinal which he lost a few days ago. This shows that the dynamic Frenchman is in good form and hitting the ball sweetly. Gael Monfils has never made it past the third round at Wimbledon and while this could just be coincidence, it might also suggest that he struggles to keep up with the fast pace of the grass courts. Monfils is known for his dynamic and entertaining style which is entertaining to watch but might to be fully suited to the grass courts of Wimbledon.

Taking all that information, I am going to predict that Richard Gasquet will win this match. Gasquet is much more suited to the conditions at Wimbledon. Furthermore, he is also much more rested than Gael Monfils. These two factors should decide this game. As far as betting is concerned, we are getting a good enough price to wager on Richard Gasquet to win so the outright market is the best betting option. In addition to that, I am going to suggest that this game goes to at least the fourth set. While Gasquet should win, Monfils is more than good enough to win a set. As a result, the over 3.5 sets is a wager which I like.
