Gael Monfils vs Robin Haase - 3/22/19 ATP Tour - Miami Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

French tennis player, Gael Monfils, received an opening round bye at the 2019 ATP Miami Masters due to his high seeding. Monfils will begin his Miami Masters campaign in the second round where he will face Robin Haase from the Netherlands.

Robin Haase won his opening round match with ease as he beat Lukas Lacko in straight sets. During the win, Haase was very impressive while service as he hit 8 aces which aided him in winning 66% of his service points. Haase won all of his service games and broke Lukas Lacko’s serve on 3 occasions to set up a comfortable win. It has been a tough start to the 2019 season for Robin Haase as he has only won 4 matches all season which shows that he is not in the best of form.

On the other side of the coin, Gael Monfils enters this match in terrific form. Prior to arriving at the Miami Masters, Gael Monfils won the ATP Rotterdam Open. In addition to that, Monfils also had deep runs at the ATP Dubai Tennis Championship where he made the semifinal and the ATP Indian Wells Open where he made the quarterfinals. It is important to note that Monfils had an injury related to his Achilles which caused him to withdraw from the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Open. That being said, Monfils looks fit to compete at this tournament.

Gael Monfils and Robin Haase have played twice in the past with Monfils winning on both occasions. The most recent match was in 2013 at ATP Nice where Monfils won in straight sets.

Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Gael Monfils to win this match. Monfils has been in exceptional form while Haase has struggled over the past few months. With contrasting form and Monfils being the stronger player, I see the Frenchman getting the win and a spot in the third round.

Pick:
Gael Monfils
