We have reached the second round of the WTA Rogers Cup event in Toronto. This round will see world number 7 Garbiñe Muguruza begin her tournament. The Spanish superstar will take on Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia. This is one of the bigger tournaments on the WTA calendar and both players will be desperate to do well so I am expecting a good contest.
Anastasija Sevastova won her round of 64 match in convincing fashion. The Latvian looked in good form and was hitting the ball very cleanly. It has been a good few months for the Latvian as she won the WTA Bucharest Open. It will be very important for Anastasija Sevastova to cash in on this form and get some more deep runs. That being said, this will not be an easy match for the Latvian as she is playing against one of the top players in the world.
On the other side of the coin, Garbiñe Muguruza will look to test her fitness in this match. The Spaniard had to withdraw from the Stanford Classic due to injury and she will want to test that injury to ensure that she is fit for the US Open. Getting some court time will be important for Garbiñe Muguruza as she has not been very active due to the injury. This will be a great chance for the world number 7 to play some tennis but I expect her to take it easy as she will be very keen to avoid getting injured again.
With all that taken into consideration, I am still going to side with Garbiñe Muguruza winning this match. Even with the injury concerns, the Spaniard is superior and I think that will be shown in this match. I expect the world number 7 to show her class and beat Anastasija Sevastova with ease in straight sets.
