Garbine Muguruza and Mona Barthel meet in the second round of the 2019 tennis Thailand Open.

Garbine Muguruza is coming off a straight sets win over Sabine Lisicki that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Muguruza won 68 percent of her first serve points and 76 percent of her second serve points. Muguruza won 71 percent of her total service points and saved both of her break points. It was a balanced and effective performance for Muguruza, who had a disappointing showing in the fourth round of the Australian Open. As I’ve said many times in the past, Muguruza is a frustrating player to bet on, as you’re never sure which player is going to show up. When Muguruza is hitting her spots and playing with confidence, she has to be the favorite to win this tournament. Muguruza has won five of her last seven matches on hard court.

Mona Barthel is coming off a three sets win over Fiona Ferro that took 24 games to decide. In the victory, Barthel won 77 percent of her first serve points and 40 percent of her second serve points. Barthel won 61 percent of her total service points and produced four breaks on 11 break points. Barthel has to clean up the unforced errors, which included nine double faults, as she has zero chance to win this match if that continues. Barthel can also be better with her serve moving forward. Barthel hopes to win back-to-back matches in a WTA tournament for the first time since Tashkent. Barthel has five career wins over top-10 players, but none of those wins have come since 2015. Barthel has split her last eight matches on hard court.

These two have played once, which was in Hertogenbosch of 2013, a match Muguruza won in three sets. The match took 27 games to be decided.

Muguruza can be frustrating to bet on, but this is a match she should cruise in straight sets. Barthel was an unforced error machine in her most recent match and doesn’t have a serve that’s going to scare the Spaniard. Muguruza should have a field day with the winners and can take chances with the return on the second serves.

Muguruza wins this match in straight sets.
