Garbine Muguruza and Svetlana Kuznetsova meet in the fourth round of the 2016 French Open.
Garbine Muguruza is coming off a straight sets win over Yanina Wickmayer that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Muguruza won 72 percent of his first set points and 41 percent of his second serve points. Muguruza is feeling it right now, as she’s lost just five games and racked up 24 unforced errors in her last two matches combined. Muguruza is showing why she’s a top-five player and isn’t wasting any time finishing her points and sets. If Muguruza continues to hit the ball the way she is, she could reach her second career grand slam final. Muguruza looks to make the quarterfinals of a grand slam for the fourth time of her career. Muguruza has a shot at three straight quarters appearances in the French Open.
Svetlana Kuznetsova is coming off a straight sets win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Kuznetsova won 73 percent of her first serve points and 52 percent of her second serve points. Kuznetsova has lost just nine games in her last four sets and has had 18 or less unforced errors in all three of her matches. Kuznetsova has been impressive with her service game as of late and isn’t beating herself with silly mistakes. Kuznetsova is always a threat in this tournament on clay court, her favorite surface. Kuznetsova hopes to make her first grand slam quarterfinal appearance since the 2014 French Open. Kuznetsova has a shot at her eighth quarterfinal appearance in the French Open.
These two have played once in the past, which was in the 2015 Madrid Masters, a match Kuznetsova won in three sets. The match took 33 games to decide. This will obviously be the second time these two meet on clay.
It’s downright impossible to bet against Muguruza with the way she’s playing right now. Muguruza looks scary and is in elite form at the moment. Kuznetsova has the experience and great success on clay, but Muguruza is playing at another level right now.
Muguruza reaches her third straight quarterfinal appearance in the French Open.
