Garbine Muguruza vs Victoria Azarenka 4/7/19 Monterrey Open Tennis Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Spanish tennis superstar, Garbine Muguruza has made it into the final of the 2019 WTA Monterrey Open in Mexico. Garbine Muguruza will play against Victoria Azarenka for the title.

Victoria Azarenka won her previous match in 3 sets as she defeated the top seed, Angelique Kerber from Germany. It was a very impressive display by Azarenka as she outplayed one of the top players in the world. Azarenka returned serve exceptionally well as she won over 50% of her return points which allowed her to break Kerber’s serve on 6 occasions. Azarenka also won 71% of her service games which summed up a very strong performance. This will be another tough match for Azarenka as she is now playing against the defending champion.

On the other side of the coin, Garbine Muguruza has continued her supreme form at the Monterrey Open by winning her previous match in straight sets. During the win, Muguruza won 89% of her service games and 50% of her return games. It has been a very strong tournament for Garbine Muguruza as she has only lost one set in the entire event. Muguruza is the defending champions and she will be very confident that she can defend her title.

Victoria Azarenka and Garbine Muguruza have played each other once in the past. The match was played in 2016 at the WTA Miami Masters where Victoria Azarenka won in straight sets.

Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Garbine Muguruza to win this match. Both players are highly accomplished and both players have the experience of winning Grand Slams. That being said, Garbine Muguruza has been playing better tennis this season and she has a much better record at this venue. With that in mind, I see Garbine Muguruza winning back-to-back WTA Monterrey Open titles.
